History of McInerney

The McInerney Group is a significant home building company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. It has regional offices across Ireland, the UK and Spain. Established in 1909, the company celebrated its 100th year in 2009. McInerney was first quoted on the Irish stock exchange in 1971. During its long history of participating in building communities across Ireland, the UK and beyond, the McInerney name is synonymous with quality homes, construction and design.

1909-1950
McInerney founded by Thomas McInerney as a small house builder in Co. Clare. Incorporated in 1949 as Thomas McInerney & Sons.
1950-1970
McInerney entered the Dublin market and involved in major local authority housing projects and commercial developments. By the late 1960s the company was building in every major population centre in Ireland and was a major local authority and private housing provider in Southern England.
1970s
McInerney Properties plc listed on the Irish Stock Exchange in 1971 - the largest public flotation in history in Ireland at that time.
McInerney Properties took advantage of the buoyant Middle Eastern market. By 1980 it was operating in five gulf countries and involved in the construction of office blocks, local government housing, palaces and banks.
1980s
It established a base in Iberia and developed a number of exclusive high quality country club resorts in Portugal and Marbella.
It became a construction partner in the development of the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in Dublin.
1990s
The company restructured to become McInerney Holdings plc. Roy Ferris was appointed Chairman and Barry O'Connor, Managing Director. The company re-entered the UK market through acquiring Williams Hargeaves Holdings, a housebuilder in Bolton in Lancashire. McInerney was now building 1,000 homes in Ireland every year geographically spread in every region and urban centre in the country.
2000s
In 2002, as part of the company's strategy to secure growth , both organically and by acquisition, McInerney purchased the Charlton Group, a Lancashire development and construction group.

In 2004, the company purchased Alexander Developments, a leading independent house builder in North East England. This acquisition was a further step towards achieving the Group's ambition to grow its UK operations to a scale and size similar to McInerney's Irish home building division.
Following Roy Ferris retirement in 2004, Ned Sullivan appointed to the role.
The company acquired both Bowey Homes and Augusta Developments in the UK in 2006. The purchase of Bowey Homes extended McInerney's regional spread in the North and Midlands of England while the acquisition of Augusta Developments expanded the company's presence in the South Midlands of the UK.
In February 2007, McInerney acquired Lancing Homes, further expanding the company's UK geographic footprint.
